Group therapy is designed to support recovery and provide structure, education,
and a means of improving coping skills. The 12-step philosophy of Alcoholics
and Narcotics Anonymous is an important part of treatment. Medical and support
services meet patients’ physical, psychological, and social needs.
Adult & Geriatric Inpatient Services
St. Mary’s Adult & Geriatric Inpatient Service provides a means of stabilization, evaluation and treatment for persons aged 18 - 99 years. Treatment is based upon the belief that the human being is a delicate balance of emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual dimensions. Our experienced behavioral professionals treat patients with disorders of thought and disturbances in behavior. The purpose of all therapies is to promote the person’s highest level of functioning. This is accomplished through individual and group therapy, occupational and recreational therapy, administration of medication, and interactions with others. Family members are encouraged to actively participate in treatment. The patient’s length of stay is generally short term.
Adult Substance Abuse Services
Because recovery from a substance abuse disorder is ongoing, St. Mary’s Behavioral Services offers a range of treatment options designed to meet patients’ changing needs. Medical detoxification, if necessary, is provided in an acute hospital setting. For those who require less intensive therapy, outpatient services are offered which allow participants to maintain a daily work or school schedule. Therapy sessions and educational classes are held from 1 to 3 hours per day at least 3 days per week, dependent upon the individual’s needs. Drug screens are conducted following legal and medical protocols.
Adult Partial Hospitalization
St. Mary’s Adult Partial Hospitalization is a unique program that allows patients to learn and practice new lifestyle skills during the day and return to their own homes at night. The
program provides 6 hours per day of intensive, highly structured treatment with support from a team of St. Mary’s behavioral specialists. A full range of psychiatric services is provided during partial hospitalization. Group and individual therapies offer structure, education, and ways to improve coping skills. Medical and support services meet the patient’s physical, psychological, social, and activity needs to help the patient adjust to activities of daily living.
Child & Adolescent Inpatient Services
St. Mary’s has long been an area leader in development of comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse services for children and adolescents. St. Mary’s Child & Adolescent Inpatient Program offers 24-hour care for children ages 3 - 18 who are experiencing emotional disturbances such as impaired reality, disordered or bizarre behavior, depression, anxiety, alcohol or drug abuse, or eating disorders. Supportive treatment in a safe environment is provided around the clock. Group therapies are designed to provide structure, education, and a means of improving coping skills. Medical and support services address the patient’s physical, psychological, social, and educational needs, and activity therapies help the patient adjust to experiences of daily living. Families are an integral part of treatment. Regional Office of Education teachers coordinate an educational program so patients receive school credit.
